The beginning of his story...
Hickathrift was collected as an egg from the RSPB Nene Washes in April 2019.

Back to the wild...
Hickathrift was released with his two siblings - Tam and Worley - and 18 other headstarted birds at Lady Fen, WWT Welney on 17 June 2019. Hickathrift is fitted with a geolocator so, in future, may help us map the godwits' migratory route.

And his story continues...
February 2020. Hickathrift is seen near Nador in Morocco. The first sighting of a Project Godwit ringed bird in Morocco!

How was he named?
Hickathrift was named by rebecca_tickell on Twitter after the local legendary character of Tom Hickathrift – a prodigiously tall, marsh dweller of Wisbech-Ely area (and giant killer).
