The beginning of her story...
Gerty's egg was collected from arable farmland near the RSPB Nene Washes in April 2018, one of the 'muddy eggs' we feared wouldn't survive. She hatched on 20 May.

Back to the wild...
Gerty was released with the largest group of 2018, along with her brother Godfrey. The 21 birds were released on Lady Fen at WWT Welney on 19 June. Gerty is fitted with a geolocator so, in future, may help us map the godwits' migratory route.

And her story continues...
April 2020. Gerty is back at the Ouse Washes at the RSPB Pilot Project site. In May, her brother Godfrey was also seen at the Pilot Project.

How was she named?
Gerty was suggested by Adam L Canning on Twitter when we asked for name ideas on social media.
