The beginning of his story...
Unable to nest on the Nene Washes due to flooding, Estragon's parents nested on nearby farmland. His egg, caked in mud, was carefully cleaned and incubated at WWT Welney. He hatched on 23 May 2018.

Back to the wild...
He was released on 19 June at Lady Fen, WWT Welney with 20 other birds. Estragon is fitted with a geolocator so, in future, may help us map the godwits' migratory route.

And his story continues...
April 2019. Estragon is spotted back at his release site, Lady Fen at WWT Welney.
June 2019. Estragon is spending the summer at the Ouse Washes.
April 2020. Estragon is back at Lady Fen, WWT Welney.
May 2020. Estragon is displaying and holding a territory at WWT Welney.
April to June 2021. Estragon is back breeding at WWT Welney, and is also spotted once at the Nene Washes in May.

How was he named?
Estragon was suggested by @classvar when we asked for name ideas on social media.
