The beginning of her story...
Purl's egg was collected from the RSPB Nene Washes in April 2017 and hatched at WWT Welney on 11 May 2017.

Back to the wild...
Purl was released at Lady Fen, WWT Welney on 12 June 2017. Purl was released alongside 24 other young black-tailed godwits including three of her siblings.

And her story continues...
May to July 2018. She spends the summer at the Ouse Washes.
August 2018. She is seen at Barway, near Ely and at Broadwater, near Bury St Edmunds.
April 2019. She's back at WWT Welney near the Ouse Washes!
May 2019. Purl has paired up with another headstarted bird, a male called Denver.
May 2020. Purl is back at WWT Welney for another year!
February 2021. Purl is seen at Porto Alto in Portugal.

How was she named?
Purl was named after Purls Bridge, a settlement in Welches Dam and near the Ouse Washes.
